Common Questions About Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk and talk therapy is well-suited for adults who feel more comfortable talking while moving, being outdoors, or engaging in a less traditional therapy setting. It can be especially helpful for people experiencing stress, anxiety, life transitions, or those who feel stuck in a seated office environment. Walk and talk therapy may not be appropriate for every concern or individual, and suitability can be discussed during an initial consultation.

Coverage for walk and talk therapy depends on your insurance plan and provider. Insurance companies typically cover therapy based on the clinical service provided rather than the physical setting. Outdoor sessions are billed the same way as in-office therapy when clinically appropriate. Clients are encouraged to check with their insurance company to confirm coverage, copays, and reimbursement details.

Yes, walk and talk therapy can be highly effective for many people. Combining movement with conversation often helps clients feel more relaxed, focused, and open during sessions. Walking side-by-side can reduce the pressure of face-to-face conversation, while being outdoors may support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and clearer thinking. Walk and talk therapy uses the same evidence-based clinical approaches as traditional therapy, simply delivered in a different setting.
